Tammy Hits the North Trails!

Hi everyone!

I did it!!! On May 19, 2002, I completed my first half marathon!

I don't care what runners say - race walking is still hard! I finished 13.1 miles in 3 hours, 29 minutes and 14 seconds. I maintained a pace JUST under a 16 minute mile. My goal was to finish under 3 and a half hours. I would have like to have gone faster, but for a first time, I was really happy with just finishing!!

I'll have pictures posted as soon as mom gets them to me and I get them converted to digital. (I, of course, forgot the digital camera!)

I did the final update on the stats section and I realized I've walked almost 400 miles in 4 months! Holy cow!

And let's not forget the reason we did this...

My honored heros are:

**Elizabeth Thomas, my grandmother, 1971

**Jose Miguel Martinez, father of one of my students, Hodgkin's disease, January 2002

**Manuel Rodriguez, Sunset student, Leukemia, January 2002

**Charlene Blamer, survivor since summer 2000

**Sally Slaughter, a friend's mother, surviving breast cancer since 2001

**John Salvey, Trevor Dickens & Clif Ackermann, Team in Training Honored Heroes

**Maria Margeson, Team in Training Honored Hero (She still has not made it to remission. Check out her weekly updates in the diary.)

Thank you again for your time and your contributions!!!!!

I will be taking the winter training season off, and instead, will be mentoring a team of walkers. I'll come back to race next spring. Be sure to include the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in your 2003 budgets :)
